Education; a veritable instrument for economic empowerment- Bala Mohammed
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed has said that education remains a veritable instrument for economic empowerment. The minister stated this at the weekend in Abuja during the launching of the Cultural Day by the New Capital School, Asokoro in Abuja.
Bala Mohammed who was represented by Dr Emmanuel Aina defined culture as the customs and beliefs art, a way of and social organization of a particulatr country or community also Culture can be used to showcase the economic value of a people in international forum.
Also speaking at the occasion, Assistant Director of the school, Mr Onu Omata said that Education remains the most important tool for inculcating cultural awareness in our youth.
According to him, “When you empower the youth, they will develop their abilities to become good members of the society. That is why nation spend large percentage of their budget on developing their educational sector. It was the late American president john f. Kennedy who said that the progress of any nation can be no swifter than its progress in education”.
He said that the event provides opportunity to appreciate our country’s rich cultural values and vibrant energies of it youth. “On display today will be dances, clothing and other artistic forms sourced from Nigeria’s rich cultural environment. We invite our guest to site back and appreciate the rich cultural heritage that makes our country tick. You will be entertained and educated as well” he said.
He also said that the New capital school Asokoro proudly epitomizes Nigeria’s unity in diversity. “We have staff members and intakes from different ethnic and religious backgrounds working and studying together in cordial atmosphere. The vision of the school proprietor, lady veronica oguejiofor, is to nurture a world class educational institution which will turn out confident graduates worthy in character and learning. This lofty vision inspires our endeavors. In this era of mass failure and poor academic performance, our products are excelling in national entre-point examinations because they were taught by qualified teachers”.
On his own part, the representative of Senator Smart Adeyemi, Hon Ralph Okereke said that the programme is providing a renaissance of lost cultural values in the country.
